Making the Most of Your Life
So I am writing to you just as I am celebrating another birthday. I really try not to make a big deal out of birthdays. However, one thing that I always do is try to take time to reflect on my life and how I have grown as a person over the last year. It is always fun to sit down and write down the new lessons and discoveries I have made. It is hard to believe that we are coming to the end of summer. Many are taking their last vacations. Others are shopping and getting ready to go back to school. It is safe to say that it never seems like summer is long enough. Time is such a precious gift that I think we often take for granted. I want to share a few insights with you on making the most of your life.
- Protect your heart in every season. I am sure we can agree that pain and pressure are part of this thing called life. We cannot avoid them and we cannot isolate ourselves from pain. On the other hand, I have discovered over the years that you can mature and learn how to protect your heart in every season. How is that possible? Essentially, you must make the decision to never allow a moment of pain to poison your for a lifetime. Over the years, I have learned how to protect my heart even in the most turbulent times. You must make a decision that no event, circumstance or condition in your life will have the power to shake you or shape your future. You must be able to go through difficult times without allowing those times to define your life. Ultimately, our attitude in adversity determines the altitude of our lives. The condition of your heart is the catalyst for how high you go in life. Do not allow the dark seasons of your life to break you. Choose to get better and not bitter. I am so glad to know that trouble does not last always. However, the truths that I learn in troubled times hold the key to transforming everything about my life. Never limit your life by an experience. Live an emancipated life by protecting your heart.
- Always remember that you have the power to choose joy. This is a lesson that is hard for many people to understand. Ultimately, when you do not know who you are you will always find your identity in people, possessions and positions. As I have matured and done the work to heal my soul, I discovered that peace cannot be the highest priority in your life. I know some of you are bewildered by that statement. However, if you give me a moment I promise to explain it further. Peace is something that changes based on the conditions in your life. One wrong word or piece of bad news has the power to steal your peace. On the other hand, joy is rooted in the eternal. It comes from a deep place and it is divine. More importantly, I want you to understand that joy is a decision. That means that you are not oblivious to the things that are happening in your world. However, your joy does not come from this three dimensional world. In other words, joy is something that you have the power to choose. You cannot control all the events that are happening in your life but you can control the influence those events have on our life. True joy cannot be taken away from you. When you really understand that joy is a choice you will never live another day of your life in bondage. You will operate with assurance that nothing outside of you has the power to alter what is happening inside of you without your permission.
- Be willing to end the identity crisis in your life. The older I get the more thankful I am that I had an awakening early in life. I see so many people that are battling rejection. They live their entire lives for the applause and approval of other people. I watch them desperately crave to be the center of attention. However, deep down inside I know that they are miserable, broken and unhappy. It is not okay to live your life without a sense of identity. We have a generation trying to operate in purpose without being established in identity. Purpose without identity will destroy your life. Not knowing who you are causes you to act recklessly and birth future seasons of regret. One of the most important decisions you can ever make is to end the identity crisis in your life. Stop looking for other people to tell you who you are and discover your true identity. Knowing who you are brings strength, values, power, honor and the capacity to reach your full potential in life. You cannot serve effectively without soul emancipation. You cannot properly care for the world around you until you first deal with the cracks in your foundation.
- Live your life with a clear vision. After you have ended the identity crisis in your life, the next step is to develop a clear vision for your life. When you do not know who you are it is impossible to have clear perception. Without clear perception everything that you build will crumble. Perception is essential when it comes to creating a clear vision for your life. One of the problems in the world today is that we have produced a generation with no vision. When you live without a vision you become a prisoner to your circumstance and product of your environment. Vision focuses our energy, structures our time and directs our priorities. A man without a vision will always live distracted, disempowered and directionless. It is very important to have a clear vision for your life. A clear vision requires strategy, tactics, time-tables, metrics and accountability. While I could name a plethora of other essentials, I think you get the point that vision needs to be clearly defined. If you do not know where you are going, you will waste your entire existence wandering through life. On the other hand, when you have a vision you live a life of structure, synchronization and success. Vision must be broken down into steps so that it is manageable. All progress in life begins with having a plan.
