Concentration: A Master Key to Consistent Progress
Well, we are just a few short weeks away from summer. This is usually the time of the year when most people start to check out from work, abandon their goals, and start feeling the urge to rest and relax. While I am not saying that it is anything wrong with rest and relaxation, I am saying that you need to continue to stay focused on your goals. Yes, I think you should take a vacation and recharge. At the same time, you cannot allow this time of the year to make you lazy, undisciplined, and unfocused on the goals that you have set for yourself in 2022. I want to share some insights with you on why focus is so essential in making progress and realizing your greatest potential.
- You need to spend some time looking over your goals. As I said at the beginning of this article, I know this is the time of the year when everyone starts to think about rest and relaxation. Most people are thinking about vacation, they are distracted at work and productivity starts to suffer in a major way. I am not telling you that you should not take time off and enjoy a vacation. However, what I am saying is that you cannot allow the season to dictate your goals. I want you to spend some time looking over the goals that you have set for 2022. Where are you in regard to your goals? What are you accomplishing? Where do you need to make adjustments? If you do not visit your goals regularly, then your goals will not stay top of mind. Anything that is out of your mind becomes out of the realm of manifestation. In addition, anything that you are not reviewing you will never have the resolve to accomplish. So take the time to look at your goals. This will remind you of how far you have come and how far you have left to go. It is impossible to accomplish anything that you have not given your undivided attention. The difference in years boils down to discipline and diligence.
- You need to eliminate distractions in your life. One of the things that I have been telling my clients this year is that you have to divest from everything that distracts you from the accomplishment of your goals and the realization of your dreams. What does that mean? It means you have to deprive your time, energy, and focus of anything that does not move you closer to the life that you desire. Many times I hear people talk about the life of their dreams. However, I observe their behaviors and I realize that they have not really bought into the life that they say they desire. Confusing behaviors will never result in cycles being broken in your life. Distractions are always costly and also detrimental to your destiny. Distractions provide us with temporary pleasure at the expense of long-term regret. In other words, distractions provide us with a sense of escape but at the price of the execution of our goals. This year I want you to say no to distractions and say yes to the disciplines that will propel major shifts and radical change in your life. Do not allow distractions to derail your destiny. Entertaining distractions will extinguish your dreams.
- You need to develop discipline in your life. As a highly respected thought leader, people from around the world reach out to me for advice, mentorship, consulting, advising, and other services. Most people want to know how to make progress and manifest their vision. After talking with a person for a few minutes, I can quickly discern why they are not making progress and living the life of their dreams. In reality, most people talk the talk but they cannot walk the walk. In other words, most people have great dreams and great ambition but no discipline. Everyone is looking for hacks and cheat codes. However, there are no shortcuts to success. Success is the product of sacrifice. You cannot live the life of your dreams without discipline. Discipline is the opportunity cost that unlocks a future of endless possibilities. If an opportunity has a cost, then I want you to know that the cost is discipline and preparation. In this era of positive thinking and positive affirmations, I want to remind you that positivity without discipline will only produce disappointment. It is time to stop dreaming about a better life and start doing the work that will produce a better life. Make the investments that will shift your life out of neutral and into overdrive. Invest the time, energy, focus, discipline, and commitment in taking the actions that will move your life forward and empower you to manifest your future. Discipline is the bridge between ambition and the actualization of your goals. Discipline empowers you to form the habits that develop the consistency to achieve results.
- You need to celebrate your wins. One of the big mistakes that I made in the early years of my life was being an overachiever and a workaholic. While most will say this is commendable, I realized quickly that it was crippling my success and prosperity. I was so consumed with the manifestation of this massive vision that I was not taking the time to enjoy all the small victories along the way. As a result, I found myself frustrated, burnout, and discouraged. I want you to listen to me very carefully. I do not care how small the win or how insignificant the victory may seem. You must take the time to celebrate the progress you are making along the way. Why is this so important? First of all, it will reinforce to you that there is a reward in life for producing results. Secondly, it will reenergize you and empower you with the resolve to keep going after your goals and ultimately manifest your larger vision. Most of all, it will safeguard you from cycles of hopelessness and discouragement. You will be encouraged to keep expanding your capacity, elevating your thinking, and embracing new possibilities for your life. The journey to your ultimate vision can be long and difficult. However, when you are able to see the progress you are making and celebrate the wins it makes the journey a lot sweeter. Take time to celebrate your wins, recognize your progress and acknowledge your victories. If you do this, you will become unstoppable and you will produce a life of uncommon success and uncommon victories.
